Assessment
Continuous assessment would be carried out
throughout the year. The combination of both in terms I and II will determine
the overall performance of a student. The weighting is as follows:

Chapter Wise Assessment (CWA):
CWA is planned to
check the students’ understanding of the lesson taught in previous classes and
it would be carried out in the classroom under the supervision and guidance of
the teacher. Some examples of CWA may be group discussions, reading, writing,
drawing, problem solving, and student participation by asking different levels
of questions. In order to assess the student, teacher will design questions
related to the objectives of the lesson. If the student is not able to answer
the questions, the teacher must provide some remedial support to improve his or
her learning. Subject Teacher must discuss and develop a form for CWA; where by
3 % of CWA will be reflected in the students result.
Project Work (PW)
Project Work is an
extended learning activity undertaken by a student related to a topic in the
syllabus involving the student in processes such as information gathering,
interpreting and presenting the information in a logical sequence and written
form under the continual guidance and support of the teacher. Here, the process
gains much more attention and recognition than the product, which of course is
taken into account. Following is the Assessment Criteria:
- Content (3 marks)
- Originality (2Marks)
- Presentation(2Marks)
- Deadline ( 2 Marks)
- Reference (1Marks)
For Class XI &
XII Science, 7 % (for home exam) of the total marks are evaluated as part of
Project Work in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Project Work should
be hand written and strictly A4 sized paper should be used
(provision of A4 papers will be arranged by the school) Computerized Project
Work does not carry any bonus marks.
All the
classes from VIII to X must carry out three minor project works in first term
and three in second term.
Practical Work
Practical Work is carried out for Physics, Chemistry and Biology as
prescribed in the syllabus instead of project work for Grades IX and X during
the practical periods. In case of grades XI and XII, both are undertaken by the
students. Following is the assessment
criteria:
1. Experiment
2. Observation
3. Inferences
4. Presentation.
All forms of assessment mentioned above must be
recorded and maintained in the class CA form by the subject teachers. The
records will be counter signed by Monitors and Academic Head at the end of each
month (for PW, at the end of scheduled time) who will also look at the work
corrected before signing the records.
The grades/marks
obtained will be displayed at the end of each month (for PW, at the end of
scheduled time) for each class by the Subject Teachers concerned who are also
responsible for compiling records for onward submission to the Class Teachers
at the end of each term.
For XI & XII
Science, 20 % of the total marks are evaluated by Practical Examinations in
Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Examinations
The school assesses
the students’ in two ways viz. Unit Tests and Terminal Examinations. Unit Test
will be conducted after every unit while term test will be conducted two times
at the end of the two terms. Tests are aimed at not only reinforcing the
learners to learn continuously (thereby checking on the continuity of learning)
but also to check and ensure the learners understanding of the contents/topics
taught/learnt in the class (thereby checking on the knowledge acquired by the
learners in that particular period/unit or chapter). This is evaluated as part
of CA to see the progress and learning of the students.
Two terminal
examinations are conducted at the end of the terms on a larger scale basically
to sum up the learning and achievement of the students. Terminal examinations
play a greater role in determining whether or not a pupil is to be promoted to
the next higher class or to be detained in the same class based on their
capacity and performance.
For classes X and XII, we have the External
Examination conducted at the end of the year while for other classes the school
prepares all the terminal papers.
Class X external examination is for 80 % and 20 %
is provided by the school as Continuous assessment. For Class XII science the
external examination is for 70 % and remaining 10 % for the project work and 20
% for practical exam.
